FAQ
How is Electra IPL different?
Our FDA Cleared device offers 300,000 flashes, while similar competitive devices offer an average of 100,000 flashes. 7 to 9 hair removal treatments can use approximately 30,000 flashes, which leaves more for additional treatments for maintenance, or an additional area you might want to work on in the future.
What is IPL?
PL utilizes diffused light, using several wavelengths to deliver visible, broad-spectrum
pulses of light while filtering out damaging ultraviolet light. When applied to the surface of
the skin, the Electra IPL uses these pulses of heat and light to locate the hair shaft, where
the highest concentration of melanin is located, promoting hair growth. As the light is
absorbed, the bulb and hair shaft are heated, safely removing hair permanently in areas,
after a series of between 7 and 9 treatments
What is the difference between IPL vs Laser Hair Removal?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a broadband pulsed light source (covering a larger area),
whereas a laser uses a monochromatic (more focused) light source. Both target melanin in
the hair follicle, however, laser therapy uses higher energy for faster results and is
recommended for darker skin tones. IPL uses a gentler, more effective treatment option for
those with more sensitive skin. IPL may require a greater number of treatments for effective
benefits; however, side effects are minimal. Laser hair removal therapy is normally used by
trained professionals.
FAQ
Are there do’s and don’ts or special
preparations required?
Prep your skin by shaving the area you will be treating at least 12 hours before using this device. Do not apply any creams or oils on the skin, to allow the IPL flashes to be in direct contact with the hair follicle. The product user manual has more detailed info that should be read and reviewed before each use. Avoid direct sun exposure and wear daily sunscreen of SPF 30. Treated skin will be sensitive to the sun after an IPL treatment, which could result in a painful sunburn and can also reduce efficacy. It is recommended to cover up and wear a large-brimmed hat for at least a week after each session. It is recommended to avoid the sun for 48 hours before and after treatment
Is the Electra IPL safe to use?
This FDA-cleared, at-home device is safe to use for hair removal. The product user manual is written to specifically educate the user on the device, how to use, what to avoid, and how to maintain the product to keep it in peak operating condition. We suggest you test an area of your skin before starting a full treatment. Please refer to the product manual for specifics.
